Medals at the Beijing Olympics

At the Beijing Olympics, China became the first country to win more than 50 gold medals (they got 51) followed by the US with 36. In total, the Nike-sponsored Chinese and US teams won 210 medals. Michael Phelps, with 8 gold (in the Speedo LZR Racer), would have been 9th on the medal table had he represented one country. Speedo was the brand to win the most medals in an individual sport, with 47 out of the 50 Gold Medals (94%) and 135 out of the 152 overall swimming Medals (89%) awarded to athletes who competed in the Speedo LZR Racer. Usain ‘Lightning’ Bolt (left) of Jamaica made history by becoming the first man in history to break world records in the 100m and 200m at the same Games – he wore the Puma Golden Theseus II Spikes that he helped to develop. His Jamaican compatriot Melaine Walker also won gold in the women’s 400m hurdles wearing Puma. ASICS won double gold in the Olympic Triathlon when Emma Snowsill (Australia) and Jan Frodeno (Germany) won the men’s and women’s events respectively. (Read more)
