World Class speakers to present at 5th Discovery Vitality Fitness Convention

Cape Town, 12 February 2008: Over the last few years the Sports Science Institute of South Africa, through the support of Discovery Health and other industry partners, has successfully delivered a Fitness Convention in South Africa which has allowed all role players and those contributing to the health, fitness and sport of this country to come together and enjoy the experiences, enthusiasm and energy that this industry so passionately has.

With less than a month to go until health, fitness and sports enthusiasts converge on the Vodaworld Conference Centre, Midrand, for the 5th Discovery Vitality Fitness Convention; the speaker line-up includes top local and international presenters.

Delegates attending the convention can look forward to hearing the likes of:

  • PROFESSOR TIM NOAKES:
    Professor Noakes is a world-renowned professor of exercise and sports science at the University of Cape Town. He has run more than 70 marathons and ultra marathons, and is the author of the running book "Lore of Running"
  • RICHARD BEDDIE:
    Richard is the CEO for Fitness New Zealand, the industry association representing the health & fitness industry in his home country.
  • DESHUN DEYSEL:
    Best known as the first Black female high altitude mountaineer in the world, this South African go-getter has climbed some of the world’s most challenging peaks and is currently embarking on the "7 Summits" programme to climb the highest mountain peak on each continent.
  • JAKE WHITE:
    On 20 October 2007, Jake White became the second Springbok coach to lift the William Webb Ellis trophy, as South Africa won the 2007 Rugby World Cup. He was also named IRB coach of the year. White's rise to the top job in SA Rugby, was a journey of intense determination to succeed against all odds. In so doing, he became the first man to coach the Springboks for four successive seasons.   • LEWIS PUGH:
    In July 2007 Lewis became the first person to complete a long distance swim at the Geographic North Pole. The 1km swim, in a water temperature of - 1.7ºC, took 18 minutes and 50 seconds to complete. In twenty years, Lewis Pugh has pioneered more swims around famous landmarks than any other swimmer in history. The 2008 convention will include a high level coaching symposium with top coaches presenting on various aspects related to training athletes and sports teams. Aside from the coaching symposium, the 5th Discovery Vitality Fitness Convention will continue to deliver cutting-edge practical and theory based presentations in its Group Training Summit, Personal Training Track, Research Track and Business and Entrepreneurship Track. The convention will once again include an industry tradeshow showcasing suppliers, services and products.

With more than 40 practical and theory based presentations running over 3 days covering topics on business and entrepreneurship, health and fitness, science and research and sports coaching and conditioning, this convention is not to be missed.
