SA player world squash ambassador

Dunslaz-sponsored UCT engineering graduate, Siyole Lusaseni (26) has been chosen to be one of eight illustrious global ambassadors for Squash 2016, the sport’s campaign to be included in the Olympic Games from 2016.

Lusaseni, presently ranked No. 2 in SA, joins an illustrious group of players that include Malaysian Nicol David, the world’s number 1 woman and the current World Men’s Champion, Ramy Ashour of Egypt; Rebecca Chiu, Hong Kong’s top female player; Saurav Ghosal, the Indian number 1; Alister Walker, winner of 3 PSA World Tour titles; Thierry Lincou of France, ranked 3 in the world; and Samantha Teran, the first Mexican woman to earn a top 20 world ranking.

Squash, played in 175 countries by over 20-m people, is bidding against six other sports for inclusion in the Olympic Games. The IOC Executive Board will meet in June to assess submissions from each of the sports, before the final vote by all of the IOC voting members in October.

“As the newest member of WISPA, I am honoured to have been selected and am really excited about this opportunity and being able to make a contribution to this campaign,” says Lusaseni. She represented SA at the Women’s World Team Championships in Egypt in December where she defeated the world number 22, Annelize Naude of the Netherlands, and finished the event unbeaten in the number 3 slot. The SA team finished 10th.
