Francois Pienaar MADFirst Ascent provided Francois Pienaar and friends with the appropriate gear to tackle Kilimanjaro in order to raise funds for MAD, a Cape Town-based charity organization with its main focus on providing educational opportunities for talented less fortunate children, formed by Pienaar and friends in July 2003.
First Ascent decided to sponsor the gear requirements of MAD members Francois Pienaar, Hennie Le Roux, Scott Gibbs (ex Lions international) and Dominic Silvester on their recent Kilimanjaro expedition. Pienaar’s group reached the summit on March 4 and then returned in time to take part in the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Race… all for MAD. Matt Damon (who’ll portray Pienaar in the Clint Eastwood movie currently being shot in Cape Town) and his brother joined their fund-raising efforts during the cycle race.
