WFSGI supprts tariff reduction for sporting goodsAt the recent meeting WFSGI (the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry) strongly came out in support of further tariffs reduction or elimination of tariffs for sporting goods. The WFSGI supported the DDA (Doha Development Agenda) negotiations for a free and fair global market, hoping for a conclusion bringing a significant new market access in both developed and emerging markets. As a leading authoritative organization for world sporting goods industry, the WFSGI’s position is to support further tariffs reduction or elimination for sporting goods, and even reach the so-called “zero to zero position” (tariff elimination both on import and export) through the Swiss Formula and voluntary sectoral agreements in NAMA talks. Recently, world consumer prices have risen at a faster pace and global inflation is being propelled by increases in energy costs and food crises. The WFSGI believes that it would help people to overcome difficulties in their daily life if governments could further lower or remove the tariff barriers. Manufacturers and consumers could benefit from an efficient global market. Tariff elimination in the sports equipment sector would create greater economic value, lower production costs, and supply consumers with wider and affordable choice of products.
