UK: Clothing and footwear sales fall sharply in JuneUK clothing and footwear sales fell back sharply in June as changeable weather stifled demand according to the latest figures from the British_Retail_Consortium published today (15 July). Total retail sales values grew by 2.1% in the month, but fell 0.4% on a like-for-like basis against June last year. This means sales have now been lower than a year ago in three of the past four months - making this the worst since summer 2005, the BRC's Monthly Sales Monitor shows. Increasing demands on household budgets and the weakness of the housing market mean shoppers are increasingly price-conscious and reluctant to spend on big-ticket items.
